Very good repairs, at a very good price: When I first started repairing instruments, I was renting a shared shop space in the Seabright area of Santa Cruz. I would ask my friends for their old beat-up instruments, take them apart, replace the finger boards and glue up the cracks. Once I got better at it I took a job at Santa Cruz Guitar company in the finishing department, where I learned what I know about finishing, which is an important part of what I do when I repair an instrument. I understand that not only is it important for your instrument to function, but it also has to look as good as it did before (or as close as possible). I also understand that we musicians are not a monied people, and the anxiety of choosing your repair person stems mainly from how much you pay. You want a solid repair so you might be willing to fork over the cash for it, but when cash is short, you don't want to waste money on a bad repair. You start thinking "Can't I just find someone to fix this thing right and not charge me an arm and leg?" Well, search no further. You're here. |

If the job involves replacing parts I will charge for the cost of the part plus labor. You may source your own replacement parts as well if you think you can find it cheeper. I usually order my parts from stewmac.com or from bouzouki.org, but can find other sources depending on the instrument.
